cplay
by Ghost on 11/16/2004
About: cplay is a audio player front end written in Python and Curses.
Cplay is a curses-based audio player front end written in Python. It can support almost any audio format that you require, including OGG, MP3, and MOD files. Because it is console-based, it has very strong keyboard support, perfect for those of us who spend a lot of time in the terminal.
Besides a console line player (ogg123 etc.) you need at least the following PYTHON packages:
python-core, python-io, python-stringold, python-curses
(from http://www.vanille.de/feed/python/armv4l-gcc2.95/ or .../armv4l-gcc3.4/ if your system is based on gcc3.4)

CSound
by Ghost on 11/16/2004
About: Text-mode only sound synthesis language and tools
The grandfather of computer music traces its ancestry back to the PDP-11 and beyond, and now the Zaurus! It doesn't provide fantastic performance (because the Zaurus has to do floating-point calculations in software), but if you don't mind the lack of real-time or graphics, it does work. Learn CSound at http://www.csounds.com/istvan/default.html

JLPT vocabulary
by Ghost on 11/16/2004
About: Japanese Language Proficiency Test vocabulary
Here is a Java application, usable on any platform having a JVM, a screen and Japanese fonts, to learn all the required vocabulary set of all 4 levels of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. That is nearly 10,000 words.
Each time a new word is displayed, it is automatically copied to the system copy/paste buffer, so that you can open your favorite dictionary software and paste the word into it, if you need to.

KPhone/Pi
by Lutz R on 11/16/2004
About: Download:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=104103&package_id=125452
A VoIP SIP internet phone
KPhone/Pi is a 'Voice Over Internet' phone
which uses the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP).
SIP services are something like index or catalogue services
which are mapping a UserID to a real telephone number
or to the IP address of the client.
Such services are available as Open Source.
There are provider, which offer such SIP services
and offer telephone calls to the phone net
via an "IP to telephone gateway".
To use these services, you need a hardware IP telephone
or a softphone like KPhone/Pi.
KPhone will work on Zaurus SL-7x0
and on Zaurus 5500 with 2.4.18 Kernel.
The Sharp Rom 3.10 or OZ 3.3.5 have
such a Kernel.
You need openssl to run KPhone/Pi.

m3u2tkc
by Ghost on 11/16/2004
About: build tkcPlayer play lists automatically
This shell script will automatically build track lists for tkcPlayer. It is a command line tool, so you need a terminal program to use it.
Compatibility tested: Retail SL-5600, Retail SL-6000, Import SL-C860 with Cacko ROMs 1.20 and 1.21.
Originally m3u2tkc was designed to work with M3U files which come from CD rippers. However, this is only useful if you want to listen to whole CDs of music, usually from your own CDs.
As of v1.10 it can scan any directory for MP3 and OGG files and build playlists named after their directories. This is more generally useful. The home page has more information.

mplayer
by Ghost on 11/16/2004
About: mplayer is a command line video player, ported to the zaurus
Mplayer is a command-line movie player. bla Build instructions are available at http://kirk.math.twsu.edu/family/james/mplayer.html I simply made the ipk file. Please be aware that this will directly write to the frame-buffer, it does not use Qtopia. I recommend restarting into terminal mode before using it. If experiencing slow downs, try -vop list=resample,format:fout=44100. Currently a shell wrapper automatically uses the -framedrop command which is usually necessary to align audio and video in my experience.
If you want to use it under Qtopie, it is a good idear to set the "-quiet" option to speedup the output.

ogg123
by Ghost on 11/16/2004
About: ogg123 ported to the zaurus. Uses Nicolas Pitre's integerized decoder. This fixes the old bug w/ older streams.
ogg123 ported to the Zaurus, using oggonachip's integerized decoder. This is a straight port with some slight display modifications to ogg123. The patches are in the email thread.
NEW OGG123 MEMORY LEAK BUGFIX. You will want to grab the latest version from the thread. Please be aware that the currently, the free integerized vorbis decoders will blow up on streams created with the yet-to-be-released Vorbis 1.0 encoder. It works great for now, but won't forever.
5/29/02 - Now using Nicolas Pitre's decoder. Much higher quality, with a smaller binary, and works properly on older Vorbis streams now! Remember to grab libcurl as well

oggplay
by Ghost #2 on 7/29/2005
About: I wrote this tool in the years 2003-2005 to hear audio books and music encoded in ogg vorbis format.
OpiePlayer could not handle ogg files with 22 KHz sampling rate and/or mono files (I can't remember). I encode audio books in 16-20 kbit/s mono with 22 kHz sampling rate. This sounds o.k. with ogg-vorbis, but really bad with MP3. It still misses some features like a real playlist and MP3 decoding (does anyone really needs this?).
Features:
* Keys are fully configurable.
* Possibility to turn LCD on/off with a single key stroke.
* Scans ogg files recursivly in the home directory /home/zaurus and on CF and SD cards (if plugged in).
Ogg-vorbis decoder library is included!
