SerialMagic - Zaurus
by Ghost on 11/16/2004
About: Use RS-232 and bluetooth data without programming
SerialMagic allows you to enter data like magic from virtually any RS-232 serial device (including bluetooth modules), into virtually any program. SerialMagic provides powerful control of serial data allowing it to be used with programs that have no knowledge that SerialMagic is running on the same system. One popular use of SerialMagic is to provide a serial data wedge for barcode scanners. SerialMagic puts the bar code data from the scanner directly into the data field at lightning speed. SerialMagic works with virtually all web and browser technologies including, XML, SOAP, ASP, JavaScript, PHP, CGI, Python, Java, etc.

SQLite
by Ghost on 11/16/2004
About: An embedded relational database in a C library
SQLite is a C library that implements an embeddable SQL database engine. Programs that link with the SQLite library can have SQL database access without running a separate RDBMS process. The distribution comes with a standalone command-line access program (sqlite) that can be used to administer an SQLite database and which serves as an example of how to use the SQLite library.
SQLite is not a client library used to connect to a big database server. SQLite is the server. The SQLite library reads and writes directly to and from the database files on disk.

Squeak Virtual Machine
by Ghost on 11/16/2004
About: Squeak Virtual Machine
The port of Squeak VM to Qtopia. It supports pixel-identical behaviors with other platforms. On SL-C7x0,
You can output the display content through CFXGA card.
If the official release doesn't work for you, there's also an extremely unofficial mini-branch (tested SL-5500&OpenZaurus).
To run Squeak, you also need an image (it's sort of like a laptop sleep partition). Dynapad is a good, handheld oriented squeak image. Finally, you can find out more about squeak at its homepage.

strace
by Ghost on 11/16/2004
About: A system call tracer
This is strace packaged for Zaurus. Handy for debugging as well as figuring out what configuration files a program might be reading without having the documentation handy.
Description from Debian:
strace is a system call tracer, i.e. a debugging tool which prints out a trace of all the system calls made by a another process/program. The program to be traced need not be recompiled for this, so you can use it on binaries for which you don't have source.
System calls and signals are events that happen at the user/kernel interface. A close examination of this boundary is very useful for bug isolation, sanity checking and attempting to capture race conditions.

by Ghost on 11/16/2004
About: Complete widget set in a single Java class, separates the presentation (xml) and logic (Java)
Thinlet is a complete GUI toolkit, a single Java class (the compressed size is 28KB), parses the hierarchy and properties of the GUI, handles user interaction, and calls business logic. Separates the graphic presentation (described in an XML file) and the application methods (written as Java code). Thinlet contains all the widgets (and widget properties) available on AWT and Swing. It is designed for Personal Java (and classic Java 1.1), and the upcoming Personal (Basis) Profile, thus it doesn't require Swing nor an XML parser.

vim
by Ghost on 11/16/2004
About: Text editor for programmers and sysadmins.
Vim is a highly configurable text editor built to enable efficient text editing. It is an improved version of the vi editor distributed with most UNIX systems.
This is a slightly stripped down build for the Zaurus. There is no GUI or scripting in Python, etc. The runtime is also stripped down to almost the bare minimum. I have left in some syntax files that are useful for Zaurus development, e.g. those for C, C++, Python, Ruby and Java.
The Vim license is 'charityware'. See the source URL for details.
