'Special' Kernel for the SL-5600

About: SL-5600 kernel with pre-emptive and overclocking patches applied
This is a special version of the 2.4.18 Zaurus kernel that has had several patches applied, such as the Linux pre-emptive patch and a patch to increase the CPU clock speed to 471MHz, which almost doubles the responsiveness of the 5600. The workaround for the XScale PXA-250 cache errata (a bug in the CPU) has also been turned off, which gives a small speed increase. All this makes applications load much faster and allows you to do things like play 320x240 DivX video at a decent frame rate.

When this option is selected, Fn + Shift and single click on keymap indicator on the taskbar
will switch between the two recently used keymaps instead of cycling through all selected keymaps.
This may be usefull for users who has several keymaps enabled but frequently uses only two of them.

Hybrid ROM is a custom ROM for Sharp Zaurus SL5000/SL5500 based on Sharp ROM v. 3.10. This ROM version brings together the best from Sharp, Crow/Cacko and Open Zaurus ROMs.
- User data and settings are stored in internal flash memory, meaning that they are preserved even when internal battery is exhaused or hard reset is performed
- Root file system is still kept in read only portion of internal memory, so that Zaurus can still boot even if file system gets corrupted. A system restoration can be performed using special "Safe Mode" shell...

MyPDA2 ROM is an OpenZaurus 3.2-based ROM for the Sharp Zaurus SL-5500. This ROM is basically the same as the OZ 3.2 available from openaurus.org, yet it contains a re-designed launcher, as seen in the screenshot to the left. Instead of a multi-tabbed interface, this launcher uses a simple file browsing interface. This launcher also improves card insertion and removal times (no more wating for document/mtab rescanning.) This is still in the beta stage, and I am still improving the launcher. If you have any questions, comments, suggetions, flames, etc, you may reach me at josiahbryan-a}T-hotmail-(D.o.T)-com. OpenZaurus 3.2 final is now available. Please download, flash, test, and bug report to your heart's content.
The OpenZaurus project was created as an alternative ROM image for the Sharp Zaurus Personal Mobile Tool. The original purpose behind the project was to create a ROM image (kernel + root filesystem) which was a bit closer to what the developer community specifically desired. The method by which this was accomplished was simply to use the Sharp ROM as a base and make alterations, bugfixes, additions and even removals, where necessary, to make the package more open.
Shortly after this, it was revamped completely. OpenZaurus is now a Debian-based embedded distribution built from source, from the ground up. Given its Debian roots, it is quite similar to other embedded Debian-based distributions, such as Familiar for the Ipaq. This means of doing things also facilitates an easy method for users to build their own custom ROM images.

Qtopia 1.6.1 Kernel 2.4.18 ROM for the SL-5500

About: Alternative ROM for the Zaurus SL-5500 with Qtopia 1.6.1 and the Linux kernel 2.4.18 provided by Sharp with the standard rom v. 3.10
I have built a new ROM for the Zaurus SL-5500 (and eventually SL5000D) with the updated version of the Qtopia environment (version 1.6.1) from Trolltech and the new kernel 2.4.18 provided by Sharp with their new rom ver. 3.10.
To install, you have to follow the same procedure of flashing a normal ROMIMAGE/OSPACK (please look at this document http://docs.zaurus.com/index.php?id=rom_upgrade_howto) such as the ones provided by Sharp; instead of creating only one file Ospack, I decided to split the package in the kernel image (zImage) and the filesystem image (initrd.bin), as with OpenZaurus. Using zImage and/or initrd.bin files instead of a OSPACK/ROMIMAGE single file prevents you to get a damaged Zaurus if something fails, because these files don't overwrite the existing stored flash utilities, such as the bootloader.
Please also note that this image does not contain any commercial software such as HancomOffice, Jeode, Opera, Sharp utilities and others, because of their restrictive licenses; but contains qpdf and whatsuponz; also the help files and games included by default have been removed because of the limited available space. However kpacman has been added. Every software in this ROM is GPL and you can find all the sources over the net, e.g. the Qtopia 1.6.1 sources from the Trolltech web site, www.trolltech.com.

About: theKompany.rom release for Zaurus users.
theKompany.rom is provided free of charge in a partnership between theKompany.com and Michael Stevenson aka Proto. What we've done is removed a number of applications and made them optional to install, you can download those missing applications from http://community.zaurus.com/projects/customroms/. In addition we've fixed a lot of the bugs in the existing ROM for the device, integrated pieces of the new ROM that were improved and pieces from various open source projects that provided superior functionality. theKompany.com does not host the rom or the applications, nor do we distribute them, rather we provide a high profile location where people can get information about what is available in the ROM and information on how to retrieve it. How you make use of "theKompany.rom" is entirely up to you, we provide no warranties or guarantees of any kind. Support can be gotten from the same location that the files are downloaded from.
This is an SL-5500 and SL-5000 Realease [But there is NO download for SL-5500]. The SL-5600 Release will folow at a later date.
This is the public beta, please fill us in on the issues via the project page bug tracker and we should have a final release out week.

YAR: Yet Another ROM

About: YAR is derived from the Sharp 3.10 ROM. Runs as root.
YAR includes the crystal icon set, rotation, sshd, newstylez, embedded/tabbed terminal, Opie clock, advanced text editor and system info, advanced file manager plus more. It runs as root, and does not use the zaurus user account.
The sharp pim, mail and help applications are installable as ipks. They are included along with opera, jeode, hancom and patience in a file applications.tar.gz
